Raksha Bandhan Date and Auspicious Time

Raksha Bandhan is a special day when brothers and sisters show their selfless love for each other. Sisters tie rakhi threads on their brothers' wrists, and brothers promise to take care of their sisters. However, there's a bit of confusion this year about when to celebrate Raksha Bandhan. This confusion is because of "Bhadra." Let's explore what this means and how to pick the perfect time to celebrate.

The Bhadra Confusion:
Raksha Bandhan is celebrated on Shravan Purnima day. This year, the Purnima Tithi starts on 30th August at 10:58 am and ends on 31st August at 7:05 am. The same day will also coincide with the occurrence of Bhadra Kaal. According to astrology, Bhadra Kaal times are not considered good for doing auspicious things.

Bhadra Timings:
Bhadra starts on 30th August at 11:00 am and ends at 09:01 pm.
Bhadra Punchh Time: 05:30 pm to 06:31 pm

To avoid Bhadra timings on Raksha Bandhan, It's better to Tie Rakhi on following Date and Timings:

Auspicious Time to Tie Rakhi (IST):
(1) 30th Aug. 2023, 09:02 pm to 11:15 pm
(2) 31st Aug. 2023, 06:21 am to 07:05 am

Bhadra Punchh Time (IST):
30th Aug. 2023, 05:30 pm to 06:31 pm

Certain sources recommend avoiding Bhadra Mukh and perform Rakhi ceremony during Bhadra Punchh on Shravani Purnima. If you are following above Bhadra Punchh time, chant this Mantra during Rakhi ceremony:

धन्या दधमुखी भद्रा महामारी खरानना।
कालारात्रिर्महारुद्रा विष्टिश्च कुल पुत्रिका।
भैरवी च महाकाली असुराणां क्षयन्करी।
द्वादश्चैव तु नामानि प्रातरुत्थाय यः पठेत्।
न च व्याधिर्भवैत तस्य रोगी रोगात्प्रमुच्यते।
गृह्यः सर्वेनुकूला: स्यर्नु च विघ्रादि जायते

Best Wishes for Raksha Bandhan.
