Shiv Puran : Brief summary of 6 chapters


Shiv Puran is an ancient Hindu scripture dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is a comprehensive text that delves into the life, teachings, and legends surrounding Lord Shiva. With profound insights into theology, cosmology, and mythology, Shiv Puran continues to be a revered source of spiritual knowledge and inspiration for millions of devotees worldwide.

There are some conflicts regarding the parts of Sanjoy Shiv Puran. People are unsure about the number of Samhitas (chapters or volumes). One view says there are six chapters. Another opinion claims there are seven chapters, including Vayu Samhita. And yet another view suggests there are eight chapters in total. However, regardless of the different opinions, the order of the first six chapters remains the same.

Chapter 1: Vidyeshwar Samhita:
This section focuses on the knowledge of Lord Shiva, encompassing his divine teachings, philosophies, and spiritual wisdom. It also includes details about sacred rituals and practices dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Chapter 2: Rudra Samhita:
The Rudra Samhita is the largest section and contains various stories and hymns dedicated to Lord Shiva's different forms and manifestations. It narrates the creation of the universe, the divine pastimes of Shiva, and the significance of his various holy places.

Chapter 3: Shatrudra Samhita:
This section presents stories related to the destruction of demons and evil forces by Lord Shiva. It highlights his role as the protector and savior of the universe, vanquishing negativity and restoring harmony.

Chapter 4: Koti Rudra Samhita:
In this part, Lord Shiva's thousand different forms are celebrated. The devotees praise him through hymns and prayers, acknowledging his omnipresence and boundless power.

Chapter 5: Uma Samhita:
This Samhita revolves around Goddess Uma, also known as Parvati. It narrates the divine love story between Shiva and Parvati, as well as the significance of the divine feminine aspect in Hindu mythology.

Chapter 6: Kailash Samhita:
The Kailash Samhita delves into the sacredness and significance of Mount Kailash, considered to be the abode of Lord Shiva. It describes the spiritual importance of the mountain and its connection to the divine realm.

युधिष्ठिर ने कहा: जनार्दन ! ज्येष्ठ मास के शुक्लपक्ष में जो एकादशी पड़ती हो, कृपया उसका वर्णन कीजिये। भगवान श्रीकृष्ण बोले : राजन् ! इसका वर्णन परम धर्मात्मा सत्यवतीनन्दन व्यासजी करेंगे, क्योंकि ये सम्पूर्ण शास्त्रों के तत्त्वज्ञ और वेद वेदांगों के पारंगत विद्वान हैं। तब वेदव्यासजी कहने लगे : दोनों ही पक्षों की एकादशियों के दिन भोजन न करे। द्वादशी के दिन स्नान आदि से पवित्र हो फूलों से भगवान केशव की पूजा करे। फिर नित्य कर्म समाप्त होने के पश्चात् पहले ब्राह्मणों को भोजन देकर अन्त में स्वयं भोजन करे। राजन् ! जननाशौच और मरणाशौच में भी एकादशी को भोजन नहीं करना चाहिए।  यह सुनकर भीमसेन बोले : परम बुद्धिमान पितामह ! मेरी उत्तम बात सुनिये। राजा युधिष्ठिर, माता कुन्ती, द्रौपदी, अर्जुन, नकुल और सहदेव ये एकादशी को कभी भोजन नहीं करते तथा मुझसे भी हमेशा यही कहते हैं कि : ‘भीमसेन ! तुम भी एकादशी को न खाया करो…’ किन्तु मैं उन लोगों से यही कहता हूँ कि मुझसे भूख नहीं सही जायेगी। भीमसेन की बात सुनकर व्यासजी ने कहा : यदि तुम्हें स्वर्गलोक की प्राप्ति अभीष्ट है और नरक को दूषित समझते हो तो दोनों पक्षों की
